When loaded properly most are almost as reliable for the 5 or 6 shots in the gun as a modern revolver. I'd rate the Rogers & Spencer to be just as reliable for the first cylinder as a modern wheelgun, since it is basically immune to cap jams.This revolver is chambered to fire .36 caliber caps. They are pretty effective when used in target shooting applications. Not to mention, it's the kind of caliber that tends to go the distance when it comes to target shooting.
